Dissloved Organics
|
Plant decay, animal decay and human activity create organic solids. This includes proteins, alcohols, chloramines, and residues from pesticides, herbicides and detergents.
By using the potassium permanganate color retention test, and a Total Organic Carbon Analyzer, the presence of these materials can be detected and measured.
Dissolved organics can impede ion exchange resins, as well as organic analyses including HPLC, gas chromatography, flouroscopy, and it can hinder electrophoresis, along with cell/tissue culture.
Activated carbon, reverse osmosis, macroreticular resin, and ultrafiltration, can be used to remove dissolved organics. Oxidized ultraviolet light can be used as well to remove dissolved organics.
